Clothing fabric

Clothing fabric and textile factory hands may perform the following tasks:
  • undertake basic hand or machine cutting of canvas, upholstery or curtain fabrics
  • operate automatic machines using computerised patterns
  • lay out and bundle fabrics
  • press partially completed or finished garments
  • deliver material or bundles to machines
  • make and attach tickets and labels
  • inspect and finish completed garments
  • clean work areas, tools and equipment.

Work Conditions

Clothing, fabric and textile factory hands mostly perform repetitive tasks, often in production lines. Some factories rotate their staff so that they are not doing the same task for too long. Workers may be required to work shifts or overtime in some factories. Large factories can be quite noisy.
